Pharaohs: Ramses II
Ramses the 2nd (see figure 13.1 and 13.2) was one of the worlds greatest rulers. He protected his people and was a famous ruler. BBC, 2014 stated that his most known out of his battles was fought in Syria when both he and the Hittites claimed that they won.
Ramses was one of the eldest pharaohs to ever live. He reigned for 67 years and had over 100 children. He died at the age of 90 and was built in a tomb at the valley of the kings. Ramses built many temples that were carved into cliffs of Karnak and Luxor. He was seen as a fatherly figure and a god to the Egyptian people. The Egyptians followed him and acknowledged him as a leader. |
Ramses II found a new capital that was called Pi-Ramesse. It was in the eastern Delta. The capital remained the royal residence throughout the Ramesside period (Egyptology and Archaeology through Images, 2013).
