Social Structure
The Social structure in Egypt played major roles. It allowed some people power while it allowed other people like servants no liberty. The Pharaoh was the most important person in Egypt. He was followed by the Government officials, the soldiers, the scribes, the merchants, the artists, the farmers and finally the slaves. To be higher on the social pyramid (see figure 17.1) granted more power. The Egyptians fought every day to be higher on the social pyramid.
The Pharaoh (see figure 17.2):
The Pharaoh is the highest on the social pyramid. They can do what they choose to do as they have a lot of power.
The Government officials:
the government officials come next. They advise the pharaoh with there choices and are regarded highly.
The soldiers:
The soldiers duty was to protect Egypt from invaders. They were the ones that did the dirty work for their pharaoh.
The scribes:
As very few Egyptian knew how to read or write the scribes played a major role in the Egyptian society. They recorded and wrote for there pharaoh or master.
The merchants (see figure 17.3):
The merchants traded goods with other merchants. Some merchants traveled to other countries to trade and find bargains.
The artists:
The artists created drawings and some made paintings good enough for the pharaoh's tomb/pyramid.
The farmers:
The farmers made food for the people of Egypt.
The slaves:
The slaves were at the absolute bottom of the social pyramid. They were either born a slave or they were sold into slavery. they had no choice but to obey their master.
