Land marks: Valley of the Kings
The Egyptians built many monuments in honour for their pharaoh. They also built massive underground tunnels that no one was meant to see (Handwerk, B. 2014).
The Egyptians created a massive collection of elaborate tombs that are known as the Valley of the Kings. The Valley of the Kings (see figure 10.1) are located on the west bank of the river Nile, near the Luxor. During 1539-1075 B.C. (the New kingdom) the Egyptians decided that the royal burial ground would be in the valley. Every since then pharaohs such as Seti the first, Ramses the second, queens and high priests would leave to the 'afterlife' there. |
