According to Tour Egypt 2013 there are well over 100 pyramids that still stand today. About every single person in the line of royalty after Zoser built a pyramid which would provide the pharaoh with the needs for the afterlife. Discover Ancient Egypt, 2014 stated that the pyramids might of even been made by aliens! Evidence today shows that even though they are huge structures that are seemingly impossible to build, they are made by humans.
It is clear that the Ancient Egyptian pyramids were mainly built for the pharaohs. The pyramid of Khufu of Giza (see figure 6.1) is the largest Egyptian pyramid. It is so heavy that it weighs as much as 16 empire state buildings! According to WGBH and PBS, 1997 that means that each block weighs over a 2.5 tons. The weight of these blocks cause a lot of discussions through archaeologists as a block that size and weight would be really hard to be moved to the construction site of the pyramid.
Archaeologist have thought of many ways of how the blocks were transported, but some of the most likely ways were that the rocks were pulled on sledges, tracks or rope rolls (Löhner, F and Zuberbühler, T. 2006). They talked about how these ideas were likely, as there are not many other ways that you could transport the blocks in 1 to 2 minutes; the placement of the blocks had to be between 1 and 2 minutes for the pyramid to be complete in time.
